Double or Nothing: Misano Highlights

Tuesday, 21 June 2016 09:41 GMT

The Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round proved pivotal in the Championship

Jonathan Rea arrived in Misano during the longest drought for a victory since the reigning Champion joined Kawasaki. With the Adriatic venue having staged his first win in WorldSBK however, Misano memories were positive and motivation was high to get back on the top step.

Tom Sykes was the man in form as the paddock touched down on the Riviera di Rimini, with 3 wins from the last four Races, the 2013 WorldSBK Champion was on a charge. The home team had other ideas however, with Chaz Davies having done the double for Ducati on the paddock’s first visit to Italy at Imola, and Davide Guigliano starting to find some traction and momentum with the Panigale R. With everything to play for and less to lose, Sykes and the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati duo were sure to put up a fight.

In WorldSSP, Kenan Sofuoglu was once again the benchmark for the grid as the reigning Champion had begun to stamp some authority on his title defence, however Misano remained something of a duck track for Sofuoglu – a known fact for his closest rivals.

STK1000 was set for another duel as the key rivalry of the season was beginning to emerge and Raffaele de Rosa prepared to face down Leandro Mercado once more: this time, with some very interesting results…
